Trees Felled in Matlock: Ascent Tree Solutions
Being one of the prominent local tree surgeons, we are often asked to do tree work around Matlock. This week Ascent Tree Solutions cut down three trees for a customer on Hackney Lane between Matlock and Darley Dale. The trees, a Beech, a Lime and a Scots Pine, were climbed by the tree surgeon using ropes and equipment. Then a felling technique called ‘sectional dismantling’ was employed using a chainsaw to saw through branches and short sections of the trunk. As the lengths of wood are cut off the tree, they are then lowered to the ground in a controlled manner using a rope and pulley. ‘Sectional dismantling’ allows a tree to be safely cut down within the confines of a small domestic garden.

Once the upper parts of the Beech trees had been dismantled then the remaining trunks could be safely felled onto the ground. Chainsaws were then used to slice up the trees into discs- a technique known as ‘cross-cutting’. The discs were left for the customer to split into logs for their wood-burning stove. We recommend leaving green logs to the season for about a year before burning them in, your homes because the residue from burning green logs can clog your chimney.

After the beech trees had been reduced to ground level then we used a stump grinder with a high-speed cutting head to completely reduce the remaining stump and roots to woodchip.
