Norway Spruce Cut Down and Removed in Fritchley: Doug Porter
We were recently called out to a property at Fritchley near Crich in Derbyshire to carry out a tree removal. In this case, the job was to remove a large Norway Spruce from a garden. The tree was located within a conservation area, which meant that we had to make an application to the local planning authority for permission to remove the tree.

This was, sadly, a classic case of ‘wrong tree, wrong place’. The Spruce tree had initially been a Christmas Tree, which was planted years ago. Over time the tree had thrived and come to dominate the garden. When this happens, the whole garden and property suffer. A large tree will leech out valuable nutrients from the soil and block light from both the homeowners and adjacent properties. In addition, overly large trees can cause a hazard of falling branches and boughs.
Part of the conditions of a TPO (Tree Preservation Order) requires that a more suitable, replacement tree is planted in or nearby the site. We found an appropriate native species of tree to be planted.
Norway Spruce Removed Successfully
When Ascent Tree Solutions work on your property we always take as much care as possible to ensure that walls, fences, lawns and buildings are not damaged by the work we carry out. In this case, particular care was required because the greenhouse and garden shed were located in close proximity to the tree.
As you can see, we removed all the large branches and bows before carrying out a controlled felling of the tree trunk. In addition, the approach to the property was narrow so it took some careful positioning of truck and chipper and we made sure to liaise with the neighbours first.

Stump Grinding Service
As well as felling the Spruce tree, cutting it up into logs, removing the logs, branches, chippings and debris we also then removed the stump using a method called stump grinding. We have specialist machinery that literally grinds the tree stump and large roots into chippings leaving the ground ready to be re-planted, or the space re-used.

Many homeowners don’t realise that you cannot just cut down trees as you see fit. It’s important to check first or risk facing a fine from your local authority. Ascent Tree care can help you speak to the correct people.
